Job Summary

The Water Distribution System Pumps & Storage Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and regulatory-compliant operation, monitoring, maintenance, and control of the City’s water distribution pumping facilities and storage assets.

Essential Functions

  • Review departmental policies and regulations to ensure equitable distribution of water.

  • Schedule the timing and quantity of water deliveries in accordance with established instructions.

  • Inspect equipment and facilities to identify maintenance or repair needs.

  • Confer with water users to investigate and resolve complaints and public relations concerns.

  • Notify water users of changes in policies, procedures, or operations.

  • Collect, deliver, and maintain required operational records and documentation.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Licensing & Certification Expectations

  • Obtain a Water “D” License within the first year of employment.

  • Obtain a Water “C” License within the second year of employment.

  • Take initiative to obtain the required 30 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to maintain the Water “C” License.

  • Obtain a Wastewater Collections Operator Class III License within the third year of employment.

Failure to obtain and maintain the Water “C” License will result in termination of employment with the City.

Minimum Requirements for Employment

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED; or

  • One (1) year of related experience and/or training; or

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses & Other Requirements

  • Valid Texas Driver’s License or ability to obtain alternate transportation.

  • Minimum TCEQ Class “C” Water Distribution License.

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background investigation.
