JOB SUMMARY:
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
Operates and may perform inspections and routine maintenance on various equipment including small tractors with mowers, light pickup trucks, single axle trucks, and trash removal vehicles. Performs general grounds maintenance and related activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Drives 2–5-ton vehicles and may operate other light equipment
- Performs routine inspection and maintenance on vehicles, including checking oil, water, and tires
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
- Assists with landscaping, tree and shrub care, and general groundskeeping work
- Prepares and maintains athletic fields, playgrounds, and picnic areas
- Performs irrigation setup and breakdown
- Interacts courteously with the public and provides information as needed
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
- Operates weed eaters, chain saws, push mowers, power tools, and similar equipment
- Uses a variety of maintenance tools such as shovels and rakes to complete assignments
- Assists in cleaning the John C. Fulghum Event Center, including restrooms and trash removal
- Performs weed eating and cleanup around the John C. Fulghum Event Center
- Works an alternating weekend schedule with the crew (4 hours Saturday & 4 hours Sunday)
- Cleans and lubricates equipment and maintains a clean working area
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned

- Regular and consistent attendance in a workplace environment
- Scheduled alternating weekend work; subject to holiday work and minimal overtime
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Equipment Used:
- Triple Cutter
- Boom Tractor
- Backhoe
- 2–5-ton vehicles and other light equipment
Skills Required:
- Ability to operate a Triple Cutter and Boom Tractor
- Ability to operate and maintain weed eaters, chain saws, push mowers, and power tools
- Ability to work both in a team environment and independently without direct supervision
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Excellent customer service skills and a positive, professional demeanor
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT
Education, Experience, and Certification:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid Texas Driver's License or available alternative means of transportation
- Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, with alternating weekends and holidays
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background investigation
- Ability to attain ICS 100 and 200 certifications
Physical Requirements:
- Extensive physical activity required, including heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling objects over 50 pounds
- Work environment involves exposure to hazards and physical risks requiring adherence to basic safety precautions
- Constant exposure to extreme temperatures (heat, cold, and rain), chemicals, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, and various fuels
- Ability to move about an office or building and travel between sites within or outside the City
- Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, to operate a computer, telephone, and related equipment
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, to communicate effectively
- Sufficient vision, with or without reasonable accommodation, to review materials in electronic or hardcopy form
