Job Summary

The City of Beeville is seeking a hardworking and dependable Utility Worker to perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks as directed by the crew foreman. This position supports city operations related to street, drainage, and maintenance work, ensuring safe and effective public service.


Essential Functions

  • Perform miscellaneous work using hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pitchforks, axes, saws, and air hammers.
  • Assist with fence building and related maintenance tasks.
  • Serve on seal coat and paving crews as directed.
  • Collect and remove solid waste, tree limbs, brush, and debris.
  • Be subject to 24-hour call as needed to ensure proper operation of street and drainage systems.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to make informed decisions regarding work-related duties.
  • Ability to safely and effectively operate assigned hand tools and light equipment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and perform tasks with minimal supervision.

Types of Equipment Used

  • Hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pitchforks, axes, saws, air hammers, and other basic equipment assigned by the department.

Minimum Requirements for Employment

Education, Experience, and Certification:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License or available alternate means of transportation.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background investigation.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be in good physical condition and able to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Work is primarily performed outdoors with frequent exposure to inclement weather.
  • Ability to move about job sites, offices, and buildings as required.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operate tools, equipment, and communication devices.
  • Sufficient clarity of speech, hearing, and vision to communicate effectively and perform assigned duties.
  • Sufficient mobility and physical reflexes to engage in tasks involving standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, and bending.
